Combine all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. Add extra ice as needed and taste for lime juice and simple syrup.
How to make simple syrup: Combine equal parts sugar and water in a small glass. I usually do ¼ cup water and ¼ cup sugar in a pint ball jar. Heat up in the microwave (or on the stove) until melted, stirring to fully combine. You will need to cool it before adding it to the margarita. You can transfer a small amount to the freezer to cool it very quickly.
